The short answer: Intuit's hiring process page says engineers start the final round with 90 minutes to set up their coding tools and solve a technical question on their own. They then present it in a 60-minute Craft Demonstration to four people, followed by a 45-minute Assessors interview with two people, a 30-minute values interview with a team member and a 30 to 60 minute manager interview. Intuit commits to feedback within 24 hours. Before the final round, a recruiter screen and a technical phone screen are typical, and candidate reports say some candidates also take an online assessment. Last reviewed October 2026.

A Week in the Life of a Intuit Software Engineer
Illustrative mid-level week · Intuit
An illustrative week for a mid-level engineer, built from practices Intuit describes in its own publications and job postings. Real weeks vary a lot by team.
Culture notes
- Hybrid: teams are expected onsite three days a week.
- Design for Delight shapes daily work: deep customer empathy, going broad to go narrow, and rapid experiments from sketch tests to A/B tests.
- AI tools are part of daily engineering, from a catalog that includes Claude Code and Cursor to internal tools that generate code and unit tests.
- Global Engineering Days give about 7,500 people a week twice a year for self-chosen projects, and new hires get an onboarding buddy.
Key takeaway: Expect peer reviews of estimates, designs and code, customer experiments from sketches to A/B tests, and on-call duty on platform teams.

Intuit software engineer interview process
The final round comes from Intuit's hiring process page. The screens before it come from Intuit's engineer interview story and candidate reports, which differ on some details.
7 to 8 rounds·~3 to 5 weeks end to end
Screen
3 roundsRecruiter screen
Intuit's engineer interview story describes a technical recruiter checking whether your skills match the role and explaining its focus areas.
Tips for this round
- Be ready to map your skills to the focus areas the recruiter describes.
- Ask what the Craft Demonstration will look like for this role.
Online assessment (some candidates)
Two or three easy to medium coding problems on a screen-recorded platform. Intuit's own pages do not mention an online assessment.
Technical phone screen
Intuit's engineer story describes a phone screen with an assessor to understand the role and show your value. Candidate guides describe practical, medium-difficulty live coding.
Onsite
5 roundsFinal round: set-up and solo work
You download your coding software and tools, then solve a technical question on your own. You present this solution in the Craft Demonstration.
Tips for this round
- Install and test your tools quickly; have your environment ready before the day.
- Get a working end-to-end version first, then add tests and polish.
Final round: Craft Demonstration
A short intro about yourself with pictures and achievements, then you present your solution. Candidate reports describe a working demo and a code walkthrough, with the panel asking about every part.
Final round: Assessors interview
Two people whose work is close to the role go deep on your skills and experience and follow up on your Craft Demonstration.
Final round: team member interview
A cross-functional colleague or people manager asks about the Intuit values that matter for the role and the environments where you do your best work.
Final round: manager interview
What motivates you, your experience, key successes and learnings, and your questions about the team and career growth.
Tips to Stand Out
- Arrive with your development environment ready, since engineers get 90 minutes in the final round to set up and solve a problem alone.
- Open the Craft Demonstration with a short intro with pictures and achievements, including things not on your resume.
- Ask your recruiter about the case study in advance; Intuit says the recruiter will answer questions about it.
- Expect follow-up questions on your Craft Demonstration in the Assessors interview.
- Think through how your experience relates to each of Intuit's values, and bring questions for your interviewers.
- Be ready to explain how AI could improve your solution, as in Intuit's own engineer interview story.
Common Reasons Candidates Don't Pass
- ✗A 2021 candidate thread says the Craft Demonstration demanded a fully working app in about an hour, and others advise building a complete end-to-end solution because the panel asks about all of it.
- ✗A candidate guide lists code quality, tests, fit with the existing codebase and design decisions as the signals, so incomplete or untested work is the main risk.
- ✗Intuit says the Assessors interview follows up on your Craft Demonstration, so gaps you cannot explain come up twice.
Based on Intuit's own pages and candidate reports.
Intuit commits to feedback within 24 hours of the final interview and says the process may be adjusted in some circumstances. One candidate guide puts the whole process at 3 to 5 weeks. Last reviewed October 2026.
What is different at Intuit
- You build first, then present. Engineers get 90 minutes inside the final round to set up their tools and solve a technical problem alone, then present it to four people in a 60-minute Craft Demonstration.
- A personal intro. Intuit asks you to open the Craft Demonstration with a short intro with pictures and achievements, including things that are not on your resume.
- Feedback within 24 hours. Intuit publicly commits to it and tells you to email talent acquisition if a week passes without word.
- Accounts of the Craft Demonstration differ. A 2021 candidate thread describes building a full working app in about an hour; a 2026 candidate guide describes a repo, often Java and Spring Boot, sent 3 to 5 days ahead with user stories to implement; Intuit's own engineer story describes a coding problem and a design presentation. Ask your recruiter which format you will get.
- AI fluency counts. Postings from new grad to Software Engineer 2 ask for daily use of AI tools, and Intuit's own engineer story includes explaining how AI could improve your solution.
- A dedicated values interview. A team member asks about Intuit's five values: Integrity Without Compromise, Courage, Customer Obsession, Stronger Together, and We Care And Give Back.

Design the e-file submission pipeline for TurboTax, which must accept returns reliably during the peak days before the tax deadline.
Sample Answer
Clarify the peak rate (assume ten times a normal day), the tax authority's acknowledgment flow and how long a user can wait. Accept the return, store it durably and put a submission job on a queue, so the user gets a fast confirmation even when the authority is slow. Workers submit with an idempotency key per return, retry with backoff and record each status change, and the user sees accepted or rejected status later. Discuss load testing before the season, capacity you scale up ahead of the deadline, and what happens when the authority's system is down. A weak answer submits synchronously and loses returns under load.
Design invoice payments for QuickBooks, where small businesses send invoices and customers pay online.
Design a GenAI assistant that answers a small business owner's questions about their own books, like Intuit Assist.
Design credit score change alerts for Credit Karma members.
Design campaign sending for Mailchimp, so a business can send one email to a list of millions.
Fundamentals practice
Concept questions on the topics Intuit's rounds lean on, with short model answers. We wrote these for practice.
Why should money be stored as integer cents or a decimal type rather than a float?
Sample Answer
Binary floats cannot represent most decimal fractions exactly, so 0.1 + 0.2 is not 0.3, and small errors add up across many transactions. Integer cents or a fixed-point decimal keep sums exact. Decide the rounding rule once, for example for tax or currency conversion, and apply it in one place.
What is an idempotency key and why does a payment API need one?
How do you read the result of an A/B test on a checkout change?
How would you check the accuracy of a GenAI feature before shipping it?
Behavioral practice
Practice prompts we wrote for the behavioral rounds. They are not reported interview questions.
Tell me about a time you raised a concern about doing something the wrong way, even under deadline pressure.
Sample Answer
Maps to Integrity Without Compromise. Explain the concern, who you told, what it cost you in time and how it was resolved.
Describe a time you made a bold call that others doubted.
Tell me about a product change you made because of what you learned from customers.
Describe a project where you brought together teams that did not normally work together.
Tell me about a time you helped someone grow or gave back to your community.
Practice problem: apply payments to open invoices
pythonA small business tracks invoices as tuples (invoice_id, customer, due_day, amount_cents). Payments arrive in order as tuples (customer, amount_cents). Each payment pays that customer's open invoices with the earliest due_day first (ties broken by invoice_id), partly paying an invoice if the money runs out. Money left after all of a customer's invoices are paid becomes credit for that customer. Return a pair: a dict of invoice_id to remaining balance for invoices not fully paid, and a dict of customer to credit for customers with credit. Example: invoices [('i1', 'acme', 5, 1000), ('i2', 'acme', 3, 500), ('i3', 'bolt', 1, 700)] and payments [('acme', 800), ('bolt', 900)] return ({'i1': 700}, {'bolt': 200}).

3def apply_payments(invoices: List[Tuple[str, str, int, int]],
4 payments: List[Tuple[str, int]]) -> Tuple[Dict[str, int], Dict[str, int]]:
5 """Return (open balances by invoice, credit by customer)."""

Practice in the EngineHow to prepare
A plan for the Intuit loop, most important first:
- Practice building a small, working, tested solution end to end in 90 minutes in your own environment, including installing your tools from scratch.
- Rehearse the Craft Demonstration: a short intro with pictures, a live demo, then a code walkthrough where you defend each design choice.
- Ask your recruiter which Craft Demonstration format you will get, since accounts differ between a problem on the day and a repo with user stories sent ahead.
- Prepare to explain how AI could improve your solution and to describe AI features or AI-assisted work you have done.
- Practice medium coding problems for the phone screen, such as the maximum contiguous subarray sum named in Intuit's own engineer story.
- Prepare a story for each of Intuit's five values and your motivations, successes and learnings for the manager interview.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many rounds is the Intuit software engineer interview?
Intuit's final round for engineers has five parts: 90 minutes of set-up and solo work, a 60-minute Craft Demonstration, a 45-minute Assessors interview, a 30-minute team member interview and a 30 to 60 minute manager interview. Before it come a recruiter screen and a technical phone screen, and candidate reports say some candidates take an online assessment.
What is the Intuit Craft Demonstration?
A 60-minute presentation to four members of the hiring team. You open with a short intro with pictures, then present the technical solution you built during the 90-minute set-up. Candidate reports say the panel asks about every part, and accounts differ on whether the problem arrives on the day or as a repo days ahead, so ask your recruiter.
Can I use AI in an Intuit interview?
Intuit does not publish a rule on AI use in interviews; ask your recruiter. Intuit does expect AI fluency: postings ask for daily use of AI tools, and Intuit says its engineers use a catalog of AI tools including Claude Code and Cursor.
Does the senior loop look different?
It can. Intuit's engineer interview story, about a principal engineer hired in India, describes a Craft Demonstration with low-level design and AI ideas before a panel of five, a 75-minute design presentation, a collaboration discussion, a 60-minute product engineering and AI proficiency round and a hiring manager talk. That loop may not match US loops.
