How does backpropagation work?

Backpropagation is an approach to updating the neural network weights and bias with the aim of minimizing a cost function (e.g. mean squared error, cross-entropy loss).

Backpropagation calculates the gradient of the cost function with respect to each weight in the network. These gradients tell us how to adjust the weights to reduce the error. Here’s the breakdown:
